Rivalry Reborn
Tell us about yourself, how did you get started playing DoD etc…?
Well my first DoD team was debores7 and I played few matches for them because at that time I was being sponsored to play Counter-Strike tournaments around my state. This was on late 2006 early 2007. After I got married by December of 2007 I stopped playing games since early 2009 when I managed to buy a new computer. I tried to return to play CS during this year but I couldn’t follow the new smart asses that were just younger and better than me. Married, working 9h a day and also studying at night I didn’t have what it takes to be good on CS: spare time for practice. So I did what almost 99% would do in my place: I rage quit.
Right after I gave up from playing CS I thought: “is DoD community still active? Let me check… Hmm it’s still active!”
Back on early 2010 both USA and Brazilian scenario was almost of full abandon (not of admins but teams). Thankfully I have played this game before so I was able to return from the long retirement period in a quite fashion. I was able to join @ NeT and we competed for TPG Season 22 South American title against dreamWorks. We lost. But that was the spark I needed to raise my interest again about the game.
After this I started helping to manage a new local tournament: the map-themed playoff tournaments called DODCUP. His formula was proved to be good in the beginning but after some seasons teams started lacking interest. That was I needed to revive CBD (brazilian dod league). We ran a successful #9 edition with two divisions and by the end of the season we even make a CBD Lan tournament in Sao Paulo which was lot of fun. I’m currently running the #10 edition and this will be my last local tournament for sure. Despite all my efforts Brazilian DoD is quite dead now. And I’m no necromancer so… R.I.P DoD Brazil.
While I was involved with the local tournaments aforementioned I got introduced to RWC. After a dispute between me and the former @ NeT’s team leader we ended up talking about other things and then I realised that I could help a lot more. He invited me to help some South American disputes for a test. I think as for now I’m all about gratitude towards him. He is very cool guy who taught me several admin lessons that aren’t available around any where. So thank you Randy!
What is really makes me glad is that we can seet how the community evolved. Winding the clock back a year we would only see RWC/Narc but now we have almost 10 people dedicated to help DoD’s development. Now we have a 30+ teams TPG and more than expected ESL season. Obviously this isn’t a DoD4CPL thing or something but we manage to sustain this we could preserve this game at least more years!
Well that’s all folks: I would like to thank some people that were quite important and helped me to keep the motivation needed during these almost non-stop 2 years: BloodMaster, dagun, SillyHand, RWC, THRASHER, SmOkE and zingaum.
Special thanks for these fellow foreigners (despite our ping issues you guys never complained nor used this as an excuse to exclude us from your leagues) for helping me and my teams: RWC (again :o), Austin, Narc, jaz, bullgooselooney, Mogers, Chad, Tox, JaGGoN, Ryanemo, dorito, kirk.
I won’t detail teams and tournaments that I played because they can be all easily found and summarized at my steam profile so if you want to check my e-nerd list of achievements feel free to check it at:

What keeps you playing DoD today?
The adrenalin that can’t be found in any other FPS game. I was formerly was a Counter-Strike player while I was young and I managed to attended several lan tournaments. I can guarantee that no other game offer that much.
Besides I also like the the social environment thing. No one can play DoD without the ability of communicate himself with his team mates and particularly in my case it helps me as I feel that I’m improving my english language skill daily. Nowadays I’m committed to USA leagues in the spite of local leagues.
Lastly but also important my wife is very supportive to my nerd way of life. Paraphrasing her “at least you arrive home early and I rather prefer seeing you playing than hanging out with your not-trusted friends!” OMFG!
Final Thoughts?
Other than just play and moan about everything I’ve been always trying to keep not only my teams but the community itself. DoD is only around for that much of time because some others thought the same at some point of their lives: to spend (and therefore waste) time in order to keep nerds playing and e-thugs raging. Seriously though for me its all about fun and competitiveness. And no other game offer online adrenalin than DoD 1.3.
